Q and A

Q. Tell us about your favorite client and why you enjoy working with them.
What is interesting is that this company was probably my worst client initially. They had a turnover in the VP of Tax position and it really showed me how the right people in the right positions can have an effect on the entire organization internally and externally. Initially, I was having a very hard time; we struggled over the project scope. When they brought in the new VP in tax, everything changed. This person was a very collegial person who was a team player and worked with us to get the project done. It really turned into a win-win situation and really showed how the right person can make a difference.

Q. If you could go back and change any aspect of your life, which would it be?
I made a pact with myself a long time ago not to regret anything from the past. Some decisions are unwise, but I do not believe in looking backward and wishing I had done it differently. We make the best decisions we can based on the knowledge and information we have at that point in time. I would not want to change anything.

Q. What's your proudest achievement?
My proudest business achievement would be becoming a partner and my proudest personal achievement would be becoming a father.

Q. Who is/was the most influential person in your career?
Dennis, a partner I worked with at Arthur Andersen. I believe to be successful in life you need to have a mentor, someone to back you up, to guide you and to teach you the skills needed in your career. I observed him and how he handled himself and I would say that Dennis was the most influential person in my career.

Q. Describe your work style?
I am very hands on; involved. I try to be a mentor to young people.

Beyond the Boardroom

What do you do to relax when you’re not working?
Although I am not a musician I have always enjoyed music. I listen to and collect music and have started an album cover collection – I have a couple hundred of them so far. I also have over 6,000 songs and my list is growing.

Deserted island wish list:
To get off the island! But seriously, I would take my iPod, my wife, kids, some beer and a lighter to start a fire.

Favorite vacation:
